Released in 1980 the album only gave one single, "This Wreckage", which reached number 20 in the singles chart, whilst the non-album releases, "We Are Glass" and "I Die: You Die" were more popular. The album, although still portraying Numan's view of a dystpoian future has a broad musical sound in contrast to the starkness of "The Pleasure Principle", with the return of guitars and strings to accompany the developing use of synthesizers.

During this time Numan toured extensively around the globe, culminating in sell out 3 night shows at Wembley Arena, with support from canadian violinist Nash The Slash and Tik And Tok, the shows were filmed and released on video as Micromusic. These shows marked the end of this phase in Numans career who would retire from touring until 1983.

Tracks:

1. This Wreckage
2. A true electronic album, containing no guitar at all, this album presents Numan's own bleak view of the future and music to match. This album spawned two singles Complex and Cars. Cars has been remixed and re-released on several occasion and has appeared on almost all of Numan's live albums.

The bonus tracks on this release "Random" and "Oceans" are instrumental outtakes originally issued on vinyl with other previously-unreleased tracks in 1985; "Asylum" was the b-side of the "Cars" vinyl single; the live versions of "Me! I Disconnect From You" and "Bombers" made up the B-side of "Complex". "Remember I Was Vapour" and "On Broadway" were originally released as a promotional single shipped with early pressings of Telekon in 1980.

The Pleasure Principle still remains a highly influencial album being sampled by the likes of Basement Jaxx and Armand Van Helden, amongst others.

Tracks:

1. The songs on this album, as Numan has frequently admitted were punk songs in order to attain a record contract, which he very successfully did with Beggars Banquet, until 1984 when Numan launched Numa Records. The first single released being a cover of Venus In Furs by The , now late, Paul Gardiner who died of a heroin overdose in 1984.

This CD version is the 1998 reissue and contains a live concert from Tubeway Army, which later came to be reissued as Living Ornaments 1978.

Tracks:

1. Basically this has always been in my top 10 personal favourite albums of all time! Yes, I know there are more "classic" albums out there that I should be appreciating more, but this album, not only being a milestone in musical history, but in my own personal musical development. Back in 1979 after the punk explosion had fizzled away it was refreshing to watch totp with a track that Pan's People couldn't dance to for once (don't get me wrong I loved watching Pan's People!!).

Anyway, the second and final album from Tubeway Army, before Gary Numan pursued a successful solo career, spawning 2 singles "Down In The Park" and Are 'Friends' Electric? which reached number 1 in 1979 for 4 weeks, despite meagre airplay due to the track being over 5 minutes long. This is the 1998 re-release with extra tracks including "Do You Need The Service" which was the b-side from "Down In The Park", a number of demo tracks that were released in the mid 1980's and a vocal version of "I Nearly Married A Human"

Tracks:

1. Me! I Disconnect From You
2. Are 'friends' Electric?
3. The Machman
4. Praying To The Aliens
5. Down In The Park
6. You Are In My Vision
7. Replicas
8. It Must Have Been Years
9. When The Machines Rock
10. I Nearly Married A Human
11. Do You Need The Service?
12. The Crazies
13. Only A Downstat
14. We Have A Technical
15. We Are So Fragile
16. I Nearly Married A Human 2

Download here:

http://rapidshare.com/files/185363827/Replicas.zip

The Catheters - Static Delusions And Stone Still Days

Second album from Seattle's The Catheters. Originating in Corpus Christi, Texas, their first single "Bad Girl", released in 1966, was a popular hit, which eventually led to them giving support to The Yardbirds. Their second single "Face To Face" was less successful, but the band continued to tour, supporting the likes of Jefferson Airplane and 13th Floor Elevators. Later recordings show the band taking on a more pop sounds and the band eventually split in the early 1970's.

Tracks:

1. It has been said that this live album rates with the like of Grateful Dead's Live Dead except that High Rise build are a hell of a lot louder!! The album kicks off with Sadame and well, let's just say, the guitar solos makes Jimmy Page sound like a tired old has-been. Ikon has the psychotic pace of some of MC5's best mayhems, amid huge and ferocious guitar distortions. Mira is an 8-minute showcase of Munehiro Narita's thunder and lighning guitar style over demonic drumming, utterly brilliant!!

We get a bit of a breather with the second half of the album. Outside Gentiles, an extended blues-rock song of the Cream/Hendrix tradition, doubled with the Creamish Door, whose blues groove can be easily recognised with the grandeur of Jack Bruce's whilst the guitar wails and screams in the best tradition of Clapton, when he was good!! We finish with a supercharged version of Mainliner, which leads into the great Rock 'n' Roll riff of Pop Sicle. PLAY LOUD PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!

Tracks:

1. Sadame
2. Ikon
3. Mira
4. Outside Gentiles
5. Door
6. Mainliner
7. This really has a "homemade" sound to it and I think that really adds to the feeling of this album. To be honest I think anything different on this album would be an absolute ruination of it. They were among the first Canadian bands to achieve a moderate level of success in their musical genre, and they helped pave the way for early punk bands. Their influence is still being heard today, with the likes of Beck sampling some of their riffs.

The band's first big break came after winning a Battle Of The Bands contest. the prize was studio time that was used to record their first single, 1-2-5, and Eight O'Clock In The Morning as the B-Side. Early pressings of this record had the band name misprinted as "The Hunted". The single, however, achieved substantial local success, and moderate international attention which lead to the release of several more singles, as well as an album over the next two years, which served to increase their popularity.

By the time the band broke up in 1971, they had a fan club with thousands of members, and they had to cancel a year's worth of advance concert bookings.

Tracks:

1. 1-2-5
2. Read on! It's monk time - it's hop time. Don't read this. We said: don't read this. Let sapphires glide into the grooves. What is beat? What is beat today? And what is over-beat? And who the hell is going to melt the hot and cold world of tomorrow?

Listen, as Roger beats, Gary plucks, Dave pummels. And Eddie dreams hell's bass part. And Larry fingers the keys of the day after tomorrow. The monks believe in nothing. The monks believe that everything is possible. The monks give everything. Words are the outline of lies. Why do the monks produce their own words - for days on end, as the moon shines - until one word leads to another. Don't listen. Count from nine until blast off, then swim into the city's primeval forest. Black discs mirror colorful, shimmering illusions. This black circle, however, quivers within the system of our dear world - goodness gracious - the experiment, after all, is only beginning. Truth is habit-forming. Lying is the art of pleasing the other. The monks for their part, love . . .

Gary Burger plays guitar and was born in Minnesota. Roger Johnston, a Texan, gives his drums the works. Chicago boy: That is Larry Clark - crazy-fingers at the organ, for his father was no gangster, but a priest. And Dave Day has more than one banjo and more than one microphone built into each of his banjos. He claims that he was born in Washington. And Eddie Shaw, who hails from California, uses his bass guitar as he sees fit!

(From original liner notes of BLACK MONK TIME, 1965)

Monks were, five American GI's who, stationed in Germany decided to form a band. Calling themselves Monks, they shaved their heads, donned black robes and pounded out songs like "I Hate You", "Complication" and "Shut Up". Radical stuff for the audiences in the midst of their infatuation with the fab four; as expected, the album "Black Monk Time" got nowhere. This is brilliant, but insane music, as you may have guessed from the sleeve notes above.

Tracks:

1. Monk Time
2. Shut Up
3. Boys Are Boys And Girls Are Choice
4. Higgle-Dy-Piggle-Dy
5. I Hate You
6. Oh, How To Do Now
7. Complication
8. We Do Wie You
9. This is Barrett at his creative zenith, his guitar style (for those unfamiliar to his works) is superb, being both imaginitive and improvisational. Lyrically, some of his songs have been compared to Lewis Carroll and Edward Lear, being both full of whimsy and grace, whilst on the other hand he takes you to the darkest regions without making any effort whatsoever.

Tracks:

Astonomy Domine
Lucifer Sam
Matilda Mother
Flaming
Pow R Toc H
Take Up Thy Stethoscope And Walk
Interstellar Overdrive
The Gnome
Chapter 24
Scarecrow
Bike

Download here:

http://rapidshare.com/files/122386839/The_Piper_At_The_Gates_Of_Dawn__Mono_.zip.html

New York Dolls - From Here To Eternity

The Live Bootleg Box Set from everyone's favourite glam punkers. The recordings are pretty much bootleg quality (but then what did you expect) but make very good listening all the same, and a good insight into one of my favourite bands! Recorded live during 1973 - 1974, apart from the last 3 tracks on CD 3 which are taken from the Johnny Thunders solo tour of Sweden 1984. This show featured Sylvain Sylvain and Jerry Nolan.

Tracks:

Disc 1

1. Highly enjoyable stuff. I first came across him in 1998 with the release of Waltz #2. It received a lot of air play at the time and completely drew me in. Elliott Smith's style was very emotive and I won't mind admitting that this album really brings a lump in my throat.

During his life he battled with depression, alcoholism and drug addiction, and this often appeared in his lyrics. Aged 34, he died in Los Angeles, California from two stab wounds to the chest. The autopsy evidence was inconclusive as to whether the wounds were self-inflicted. At the time of his death, Smith was working on his sixth studio album, From a Basement on the Hill, which was released posthumously on October 19, 2004.

This is a beautiful album and, quite honestly anything I write won't do it justice, so I won't write anymore, I'll just let you make your own minds up. The first time I got to see this Bristol based band was in September 2005 supporting Brain Donor in Bristol at the Thekla. Unfortunately, can't remember too much about the gig due to some serious imbibing of alcohol going on. However, the friends who I went with that night were all blown away and quite rightly too!

The second time was replacing Brain Donor at the Cooler, also in Bristol. Julian Cope had cracked a rib, apparently trying to dig a tree root up a week before the gig. However, hotels and tickets had been paid for, plans had been made, so we all went anyway and I will freely admit to being blown away too!

Personally, I think the heads have a style of their own and this rehearsal recording, from 2002, captures the power of their live shows fantastically.

Tracks:

Dissonaut
Quad
Fuego
Troppo Ampio
Vibrating Digit
Filler
31st
Stodgy (Coke's Gone Flat)
The Ritual Is An Art Form. I wasn't planning on going to the night, it was the annual Cheap Sweaty Fun xmas show 1994 and this band were headlining. I'd never heard of them at the time, but my mate who I was out having a drink with persuaded me to go and I'm so glad he did. They were phenomenal!!!

This was the first time they'd played Newport and for many people packing TJ's that night it was the first time they'd seen anything like it! We'd all had a few drinks that night, and I remember listening to the supporting bands with my trusty beer in one hand and a cigarette in the other. Cigarette finished, beer still in hand, these guys came on and completely blew everyone away, shredded paper, which was strewn all over the floor, actually clogging up the instruments (who's idea was the shredded paper anyway?). Everyone was down the front going nuts, myself included, my trusty beer flying somewhere into the ether 'cos I had nowhere to put it. Not sure where it went but I'm hoping that whoever it ended up over won't hold it against me! Anyway beer's good for the hair!!

Anyway, I'm putting this album up as I brought it on that night and listened to it for most of the night too, and after a few more beers the neighbours were none too happy!! Originally released on the UK One Louder label on 10" pink vinyl and CD. The line up for those that are interested are Birdstuff, Starcrunch, Dr Deleto and Coco the Electronic Monkey Wizard

Tracks
Rocketship XL-3
Special Agent Conrad Uno
Electrostatic Brain Field
Shockwave
Taser Guns Mean Big Fun
F=GmM(Moon)
Space patrol
Happy Fingers
Destination Venus
Polaris

Download here:

http://rapidshare.com/files/106890972/Your_Weight_On_The_Moon.zip.html

Can - Monster movie

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_UCCrxgHVVL4/R_vfz9cmYBI/AAAAAAAAAB0/GQoaV3raGS4/s320/monstermovie.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5186985479608098834" />

The first and my favourite of all the Can albums. Released in 1969 this is in many ways a truly groundbreaking album from a truly inspirational band, led by the unmistakable voice of Malcolm Mooney who, heading for a breakdown, has been compared to "Can's version of Syd Barrett."

I first heard Can back in the early '90's when someone made me a compilation, of mostly Joe Meek tracks, and included at the end Yoo Doo Right, which, although, at 20.14 mins long hooked me straight away. Every track on this album is a gem, and I think that Outside My Door is one of the greatest songs ever written with one of the most exciting climaxes ever recorded, with a catchline of "Any colour is bad" who can argue!!
